With the advancement in technology, everyone says that ‘Data is the new oil’. Knowledge can make a human wise or lead to disasters without knowing how to use it. While some people believe it is good to share as much details as one can in various fields like business, scientific research & academic sector, others hold the notion of not sharing it freely as it may be sensitive. In this essay, we will discuss both sides of this argument with evidence that information should be shared freely but based on certain conditions as it may cause serious damage.

Numerous people believe that sharing any kind of data amongst each other makes everyone wise and aware. The more ideas are discussed, the more it makes the humankind alert. Different Astro scientists can have multiple theories regarding time travel which are sensitive in nature, the more they will debate with each other that what is going in their mind, earlier they be able to reach a conclusion based on their findings. For example, if Astro physicist Stephen Hawking wouldn’t have shared his distinctive views publicly about black hole, it would not be possible for NASA to invent a method to take a real picture of the Supermassive blackhole, present in the center of our galaxy in 2017. People never use to believe that blackholes exist, but Stephen hawking’s theories proved them wrong. Sharing ideas that an individual possess may help through the humankind to explore further options.

On the other hand, the majority of people believe that valuable facts should not be shared openly as it may be sensitive to a specific group of people or domain. With the rise in use of the internet, it is well known that cybercrime is increasing. Feeding user specific data like bank details or even name, email address & contact may lead to serious crimes like phishing & hacking. In today’s tech savvy era, any sort of is just a click away to people of all age groups. For evidence, according to times now report 2022, hacking a user’s bank account has increased by 16% over the past two years. If the information being shared is not well protected, any random hacker can steal a user’s sensitive meaningful data and withdraw all the money. For the same reason cyber security is the talk of the town these days. An individual should always be careful before sharing through the information and its consequences.

Overall, information has a vast spectrum. It may be delicate or maybe not. I am on the fence about this idea, it should be shared based on whether it is sensitive or not. If sharing what you know can lead to good networking and positive results it is a good idea to pass what you know freely. While on the other hand, if it is personal or delicate it should be handled with utmost care and should remain private only.
