IELTS Writing Task 2(Sample Answer)

Women and Men are commonly seen as having different strength and weaknesses. Is it right to exclude males or females from certain professions because of their gender?

The global economy has grown tremendously over the past few years and have created a plethora of professional opportunities for mankind. While there is a general opinion on the strength and weaknesses of a particular gender, it is an unfair practice to have a gender preference for certain professions. In this essay, we will look at a couple of examples to support my opinion on why it is an unhealthy mindset to be followed.
We are all aware of the development of the sports industry over the past few decades and it is impossible to negate the fact that only men were considered to represent the country for sports activities and competitions before the 19th century. This was mostly due to the general opinion on women’s physical strength to become an athlete and compete with other humans. This has changed over the years and it has been proven wrong on various occasions and this world has witnessed true talents that surpass the strength of men.
Another example we can look at is on the cooking. While women were considered to stay inside the kitchen and men were considered to take key decisions in the family before the 19th century, there has been a major shift in this mindset now. There are some famous professional cooks who are men and have achieved success and quality cooking than most of the women.
In conclusion, it is not a good practice to exclude genders while looking at a specific profession as this not only creates a biased culture but also puts us in a situation of underutilization of resources.
